UAlbany M.B.A. student, Daniel Bocanegra established Selfless Tee: a firm providing fashionable clothing that supports socially-conscious projects with its proceeds. The first project raised more than $10,000. From its proceeds, Bocanegra was able to provide mosquito nets to villagers in Kenya and Ethiopia, build a school and an irrigation system that provides clean water for drinking and for their growing crops. Impressed with the young entrepreneur and former student athlete, a $50,000 grant was awarded to Selfless Tee by The Pepsi Refresh Project – a groundbreaking effort that funds ideas that will “move the world forward.&#8221

Bocanegra plans to use the funds to complete Selfless Tee’s Web site. This would help the “clothing-with-a-social-conscience theme” to connect with socially conscious designers who want to create real impact, recruit interns, and provide a diverse set of people dedicated to the company’s mission and extend the program’s impact beyond its initial project: providing 30,000 breakfast meals to low-income youth in the area. The young social entrepreneur describes creating an apparel company with the purpose of fostering its commitment to social change and improving the lives of others as ‘an amazing experience’.
